How to cancel almost anything

Most forgotten subscriptions aren't billed by the company directly — they're billed through an app store or a payment account. These three pages hold more of them than anything else, and almost nobody thinks to look.

The ones designed to be hard
Gyms
The classic. Many require written notice, an in-person visit, or a notice period of a full month or more. Check your contract before you cancel the card — stopping the payment without cancelling the agreement can leave you owing the money anyway, and some send it to collections.
Insurance
Don't cancel cover without a replacement in place. Do re-shop it annually though — renewal quotes are routinely higher than what the same company charges a new customer, and phoning to say so usually moves the price.
Free trials
Cancel immediately after signing up, not the day before it ends. Almost every trial runs to its full length after cancellation, so you lose nothing — and you remove the only step you were going to forget.
